A Brief Programming Note: Secret Trip 2.0 Is Here

We’re making our final preparations to head out on our next family adventure that we call Secret Trip 2.0, but this is a little different.

We will soon be embarking on Secret Trip 2.0

As we alluded to nearly a year ago, we’re going to be finally taking what we’ve called “Secret Trip”. The real quick idea of it is that I’ve planned everything in secret. Neither Jenn nor the kids know where we will be going–and will continue to not know where we are going until the day of our flight. That may or may not always be possible when clearing customs and immigration (if they want to know where we are going next, it’s going to look awfully suspicious if I’m taking the family somewhere without their knowledge).

To make it a bit of a game, I’ve made clues for each participant that will help them guess where we will be going next. And to make it easier on the kids, I made the clues simple enough for them to guess. Don’t want them to get upset if they can’t get the answer!

At each destination, they’ll learn where we are staying, what we are eating, and the activities we’ll be doing. And then they will see when we go back to the airport for the next part of the adventure but nothing more than that until the day of.

Hopefully everything goes to plan, but if it doesn’t, we’ll come up with a backup plan. Nothing is guaranteed in travel and sometimes you just need to roll with the punches. It happens on shorter trips and on longer trips too.

The point of the trip is to have some enjoyment in living in the moment. Stop thinking about anything else that’s coming up and just focus on what you’re doing now. Jenn knows roughly what to expect from when we did it in 2015. But the kids? It’s their first time trying this out and they’re at least excited about it. Hope that continues as we move along in our journey.

Posts might be broken up into immediate reaction and the normal in-depth detail

Jenn, who hasn’t written a post in a while, might end up writing again to provide her immediate reaction and other brief commentary. It might be similar to what she wrote back in the day, providing clues or photo essays of what we did. These are probably more brief in nature because honestly it can be tough to talk about everything right there in the moment. However, with as busy as things get, there are no guarantees one way or another.

Even if she doesn’t post, it doesn’t mean the normal deep dive won’t eventually be there. At a later date (perhaps mid-summer), I plan to still go through and better document everything we do. This includes hotel reviews, destination guides, and flight reviews. You know, the usual stuff we write about. As much as I would love to write all of it live as we go on our trips, it takes more time with the extra research and thorough detail we try to add to each post.

We should still have a (mostly) regular posting schedule

Aside from Jenn’s potential reaction posts, which might happen at irregular times, I hope to still maintain a mostly-regular schedule of posting reviews, tips, and updates. When creating the schedule of things we will do on Secret Trip 2.0, I didn’t pay any consideration to the timing of when I would post. Though I could create a macro to auto-post for me, up to this point, I’ve just manually posted each time.

But in truth, that’s how we handled the other trips we’ve taken anyways and things have mostly gone to schedule. Thus, I don’t plan on taking a break and you should still see things mostly as normal–almost as if we never left.

That said, if I slip a day or three, you have my apologies in advance! Internet connections might not be the best and time changes can make things tough.
