There is only one Hyatt lifetime elite tier (Globalist) so let’s spend some time walking through how to earn it and why you might want to get it.

What is Hyatt elite status?
If you need a primer on what Hyatt elite status is and how to earn it, see our post outlining the value of the status.
How can you earn Hyatt lifetime elite status?
Hyatt’s lifetime elite status is earned solely by one metric: the number of base points earned. Since this is base points, it does not include any bonus points you earn along the way. Examples of points that do not count as base points include the following:
- Hyatt points earned via credit cards or transferred in from Bilt or Chase,
- Bonus points earned from elite status,
- Promotions that give extra points for qualifying activity, and
- Hyatt points purchased directly from Hyatt or transferred from other members.
So with that in mind, what actually counts? Here are some examples:
- Base points for a hotel stay
- 5 base points/dollar at Hyatt hotels (aside from Hyatt Studios)
- 2.5 base points/dollar at Hyatt Studios
- Dining and other charges on your hotel folio (except alcohol in most places and some third-party charges)
- Dining even when you are not staying at the hotel
- Hyatt FIND experiences (10 base points/dollar)
What lifetime status can you earn with Hyatt?
Currently, there is only one level of lifetime elite status you can earn with Hyatt: Lifetime Globalist. To earn it, you’ll need to acquire 1,000,000 base points. Doing the rough math, that means you’ll most likely need to spend $200,000 (not including taxes or fees) for nights at Hyatt hotels. Yeah, this will take a long time to earn.
Do you earn elite nights just for holding Hyatt lifetime elite status?
No, when you have Hyatt lifetime elite status, you are given the corresponding status on a complimentary basis. Only the status is provided to you and not the number of elite nights to earn that status. As an example, if you have Lifetime Globalist, at the start of the year, you will receive Globalist status but will not receive 60 elite nights in your account.
Do you earn any benefits for having Lifetime Globalist status?
Yes, you do! This is where Hyatt is more generous than Marriott, which doesn’t offer any awards on an annual basis. Each year you’ll earn the following benefits beyond just the status itself:
- Four suite upgrade awards,
- One Category 1-7 free night award (expires six months after issue),
- Five Guest of Honor awards, and
- Access to My Hyatt Concierge
It’s important to stress that this is on top of what you would earn from Milestone Rewards. That means if you continue to stay with Hyatt, you’ll earn even more benefits like another Category 1-7 free night award if you stay another 60 nights.
One last thing to note: Lifetime Globalists are coded in the system as different from regular Globalists. That means hotel staff will see who has lifetime status and who does not. That doesn’t guarantee you’ll get special treatment as it’s up to the hotel if they want to differentiate, but it certainly won’t hurt your chances.
Do credit cards count towards Hyatt lifetime elite status?
Unfortunately, no. While Hyatt credit cards will help you get regular Globalist status, they will not assist you at all with directly earning Lifetime Globalist.
Are there any shortcuts to earning lifetime status?
There once was an intriguing option to quickly earn Lifetime Globalist status, which was booking a cruise with Lindblad Expeditions. These were expensive National Geographic cruises that offered unique destinations compared to other major cruise operators. If you were interested in cruising with them anyway, like an Antarctica cruise that topped $30,000/person, earning not just any Hyatt points but base points was a treat. Hopefully something similar comes back.
Now, the quickest approach is to book FIND experiences given its elevated earn rate (10 base points/dollar). But I’ve always found FIND (ha!) to be lackluster. Sometimes they offer generic tours in the city but for a higher price than you can get elsewhere.
You could charge things to your room in the hopes of it counting as base points. I’ve heard seaplane transfers in the Maldives count towards base points, which helps earn lifetime status and points, if nothing else. Or you could consider throwing a party or wedding at a Hyatt hotel (be sure to negotiate to make sure you earn points).
There aren’t any true “tricks” to earning Lifetime Globalist other than maximizing the money you’re already spending.
How to check progress in the app or website
This is where many people get frustrated and give up. Hyatt doesn’t make it easy to figure out how far along you are towards Lifetime Globalist status. The most reliable way to find out your lifetime counter is to check your monthly account summary in email. Hyatt will list your progress in the upper righthand corner just under your current point balance.
If you didn’t opt in for emails, you can restore the monthly summary emails by adjusting your preferences in your profile.

But what if you don’t want to look at your email? You can try reaching out to customer service or your concierge to ask for the current counter. It would be nice if they showed it on demand like Marriott shows, but I’m assuming there is an IT limitation preventing that.
Can Hyatt take away your lifetime status once earned?
Yes and no. You did earn your Hyatt lifetime elite status and you don’t need to worry about requalifying ever again.
But keep in mind that Hyatt reserves the right to change its program. Mergers do happen and there’s no guarantee of honoring benefits in the process. And of course if you break the terms of the program, Hyatt is well within its rights to take action against you, which can include closing your account. So just because you have lifetime status doesn’t give you freedom to no longer play by the rules.
Is there any extra benefit you get beyond lifetime status?
Marriott hands out luggage tags when you reach Lifetime Platinum in their program. But there is no official award or celebration you get from Hyatt. You might get some special treatment from your concierge if the threshold gets noticed, but that would be above and beyond normal expectations.
What happens next?
Enjoy your status!
Some people after earning Hyatt lifetime elite status will turn their attention to other hotel chains, such as Hilton or Marriott. If you have flexibility on where to stay and have already achieved Lifetime Globalist, that’s a reasonable goal.
