Secret Trip Destination #9 – Macau (Day Trip from Hong Kong)

My family and I boarded the Cotai Water Jet ferry from Hong Kong to Taipa for a day trip to Macau, primarily to see the casinos and taste delicious pastries (including Portuguese egg tarts).

We got off the ferry at Taipa and took a complimentary bus from the Taipa Ferry Terminal to Wynn Macau. We watched a free Tree of Prosperity show just inside the Wynn Macau hotel before walking around the city.

Our plan was to visit Margaret’s Café e Nata for their famous Portuguese egg tarts, but instead found a sign outside indicating that the store was closed on Wednesdays. We were disappointed and walked around searching for lunch around Margaret’s Café e Nata. We tried curry fish balls and pork chop sandwiches from a small shop and refreshed ourselves with fresh fruit juices from Kuokkei.

We visited the famous shop Pastelaria Koi Kei, which offered pastry and other snacks, including almond cookies, egg rolls, peanut candy, and meat jerky. We walked around the air conditioned store sampling all the goodies before purchasing almond cookies and egg rolls (to bring home) and Portuguese egg tarts (to eat immediately).

With full stomachs and tired feet, we boarded the Turbo Jet ferry from Macau to Hong Kong to return back to our hotel.
