As mentioned in Destination #9 Clues, Secret Trip Destination #8 (Bangkok, Thailand) was cancelled due to potential dangers of civil unrest. There was a bombing in August that was less than a one-minute walk from our hotel. Although we were no longer exploring the city, Chris maintained the flight routing through Bangkok on Thai Airways.

Chris and I took an early flight departing 7:40 AM from Singapore to Bangkok on Thai Airways Business. We left our Singapore hotel at around 4:45 AM and had a light breakfast in the Thai Airways Business Class Lounge at the Singapore Changi Airport (which opened at 5:40 AM). We boarded our Thai Airways flight, where we received welcome juice (Chris thought it tasted like Tang) before being served our second breakfast of the day.
Upon arrival in Bangkok, we were greeted at the entrance of the plane gangway by a Thai Airways representative and chauffeured via airport golf cart to the Thai Airways Royal First Class Lounge. We were seated in a private room with couches, computer, and big screen television. We ordered tea, wine, and a continuous stream of snacks throughout our 7-hour layover.
We made reservations for our complimentary 1-hour full body massages without oils at the Thai Airways Royal First Class Lounge for 11:00 AM. We were provided with cool towels and a chilled floral tea before our treatment. The massages were not consistent from one person to another as only Chris received a hot towel shoulder deep tissue massage and was offered an opportunity to shower after the treatment.
Since I was not offered a shower after my massage treatment, I used the facilities inside the Thai Airways Royal First Class Lounge to freshen up before our connecting flight. The shower amenities consisted of L’occitane shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, and body lotion.
We were escorted from our private room inside the Thai Airways Royal First Class Lounge to the plane right before the aircraft doors closed. We opted for champagne (Dom Perignon Vintage 2004) as welcome drinks upon boarding our flight from Bangkok to Hong Kong. After takeoff, we were provided with warm mixed nuts and another drink. Lunch service followed shortly thereafter. Because the flight was shorter (approximately less than 4 hours), the airline did not provided amenity kits or pajamas.
We arrived in Hong Kong International Airport stuffed from the multiple courses on the plane, and ready to commence our culinary journey in the city!
