The Maldives islands are only accessible through the Male International Airport. Our first segment of our transit was on Singapore Airlines Suites from Zurich Airport to Singapore Changi Airport. After check in, we waited in the Panorama Lounge, near our departure gate, until boarding. Since we had an early flight, the breakfast selections were available. Chris and I enjoyed the view of the planes on the runway, but each only had a glass of water in anticipation of better food options on our flight.
Our Singapore Airlines Suites experience was amazing. The Suite cabin was relatively empty (only one other person on our flight) and the service was proactively attentive. Chris and I both had pre-departure glasses of 2004 Dom Perignon. We were provided with Salvatore Ferragamo amenity kits (with bottles of cologne and perfume), Singapore Airlines pajamas, and Bose noise cancelling headphones. Right after departure, we were served chicken satay skewers with glasses of Krug Grande Cuvee.
For lunch, I ordered the George’s choices of the menu options (asparagus and lobster chartreuse salad, beef minestrone soup, chicken breast on morel polenta, and bitter chocolate moelleux cake). Chris ordered his lunch a la carte (chilled malossol caviar, thickened chicken soup, braised oriental style beef, warm oriental sweet red bean crepe, and selection of cheese). I enjoyed Chris’s Asian themed selections more than my choices, and being the sweet husband, he traded his dishes with mine for most courses.
The lie flat beds were the best feature of the Singapore Airlines Suites. Most lie flat seats on other airlines result in narrow single beds, but on Singapore Airlines Suites, the divider in the middle lowers to create a double bed, which we found to be much more spacious and comfortable. The his and hers Singapore Airlines teddy bears were just icing on the cake.
After a short nap, we woke up and were hungry for a mid-meal snack. We ordered chicken noodle soup with yellow noodles and flat noodles. The warm flavorful soup was the perfect comfort food. After a movie on the in-flight entertainment system, we had breakfast. For this meal, I selected the Asian option (fish porridge) while Chris had yogurt and Belgium waffles.
Upon arrival at the Singapore Changi Airport, we gained access into The Private Room (located within the SilverKris Lounge). There was a dining room within the lounge, but Chris and I were still full from the meals on our flight and did not eat anything. We used the facilities for a refreshing shower after the long haul flight before enjoying a pot of TWG tea in the lounge area.
Our next segment was Singapore Airlines Business flights from Singapore Changi Airport to Male International Airport. We were provided with welcome drink choices of orange juice, apple juice, or water. Chris and I also had Dim Sum (not comparable to those from San Gabriel Valley) for brunch. The highlight of our flight was seeing the scatter of Maldives islands and reefs as the plane landed in Male.
From Male International Airport, each hotel arranges transfers to their respective private islands. We were escorted to the Conrad lounge for check in and to wait for our Trans Maldivian Airways seaplane to Conrad Maldives Rangali Island. The five nights that we plan to stay in this secret trip destination is going to be amazing!
