Atlanta Southern Comfort Food

Chris and I traveled to Atlanta, Georgia for my sister Nancy’s wedding. Chris needed to work on Thursday, so we took a red eye to make it in time for rehearsal on Friday. We selected first class, hoping that the slightly extra recline would help with getting sleep. I found that the business-esque first class seats on domestic flights were not much better than economy for sleep purposes. We had snacked on chocolate chip cookies and brownies, while sipping complimentary hot chocolate and chardonnay at the LAX Admirals Club prior to the flight. As a result, we hydrated with only water while enjoying our bowl of warm nuts. If we ever fly a red eye flight in the future, we will need to find a transcontinental route plan that offers first class with the lie flat seats. 🙂

We picked up our rental car upon arrival at the Atlanta Hartsfield International Airport and drove directly to our hotel. We check in early and were upgraded from a Standard Room (345 square feet) to an Executive Suite (900 square feet) at the Hyatt Atlanta Perimeter at Villa Christina. The suite was not only more spacious, but also had two showers and a separate living room for gatherings. After briefly settling into the hotel, the rest of the day was a whirlwind.

The bridal party was pampered with manicure and pedicure spa services at Nail City in the Brookhaven Station Shopping Center before a light lunch of Southern comfort food at The Flying Biscuit Café.Biscuit Chicken Pot PieAward Winning Shrimp and Grits Piedmont Omelet Grilled Macaroni and Cheese Oven Fried Green Tomatoes Fluffy Flying Biscuit Georgia Peaches N Cream

We were invited to dinner with the family and wedding party at Asian Cafe following the wedding rehearsal. The restaurant featured a fusion menu of Japanese (sushi rolls, nigiri, sashimi, seaweed salad), Chinese (chow mein, salt and pepper calamari, potstickers) and Thai (pad thai noodles, yellow curry, tom yum soup).

Sushi in Atlanta is not comparable to those from travels to Tokyo or even what I’m used to back home in California. Grits, on the other hand, are something that I’m looking forward to returning for again. More to come on wedding festivities!
